Overview

The Knights of Azar are a secular order dedicated to the defense of humanity. Founded by Lord Alistair of House Azari to provide a unification force in the face of The Adversary’s attack, the order is small yet growing rapidly as the need for such an organization grows more apparent by the day.

Requirements

Alignment: Up to one step away from Lawful Good on each axis.
Initiation Fee: Vow to uphold the defense of humanity over any sectarian disputes, and to represent the very best humanity has to offer by committing to martial, diplomatic, and intellectual excellence.
Initiation Test: Knowledge (any) or Diplomacy DC 20.
Offerings: 25gp, or convert one local into supporting the Knights of Azar with goods or services/service period.

Membership

Obeisance Check: Knowledge (Any), Diplomacy, or Intimidate
Service Period: 1 month
Excommunication: 3 consecutive failed Obeisance checks, or unjustified violation of the vows of initiation.

Activity

Local Defense: Successfully neutralizing a challenging threat (Minimum CR=Your HD) to a human populace near the order’s local chapter increases your Fame by 1. You may increase your Fame through this activity three times per service period.

Silver Tongue: Facilitating negotiations between influential parties in conflict and guiding them toward a peaceful solution with an applicable skill check (DC=15+Your Fame Level) increases your Fame by 1. At least one must be human or represent human-specific interests. The DC increases because you must continuously resolve increasingly difficult conflicts to impress the order. You may increase your Fame through this activity three times per service period.

Benefits

City’s Favored (15 Fame, 10 Prestige): You are well-respected within the local surroundings that the order has been present. While you do not dictate business practices or day-to-day operations, you are treated deferentially at all businesses in that area (usually about five, offering various different goods and services). If the business openly supports the Knights of Azar, treat NPCs at these businesses as if their attitude toward you were one step better than it would be toward others. Businesses that secretly oppose the order might seek to undermine you, subject to the GM’s discretion. In addition, once per month you can request a donation from these businesses. While you must donate much of this money or goods to the order, you receive 1d6 x 10gp as a stipend for gathering this wealth. If these businesses offer services or nonmagical goods, you receive a 20% discount on these goods and services.

Chapter Leader (10 Fame, 5 Prestige): You can request leadership of your current chapter if you possess the most fame of any Knights of Azar stationed there, or request transfer to lead a new chapter. In addition, once per month while in a city with the order’s presence, you can call upon the aid of two initiates who follow your orders without question (unless the orders are suicidal or obviously against the vows of the Knights of Azar). Treat these initiates as 1st level warriors. The initiates serve you for one day or on one task, whichever is of shorter duration. You can also borrow up to 100gp of nonmagical gear from the order to outfit these initiates, but you must replace anything that is lost or destroyed.

Sanctuary Leader (25 Fame, 10 Prestige): You can request leadership of your current sanctuary if you possess the most fame of any Knights of Azar stationed there, or request transfer to lead a new sanctuary. In addition, once per month while in a city with the order’s presence, you can call upon the aid of two knights who follow your orders without question (unless the orders are suicidal or obviously against the vows of the Knights of Azar). Treat these initiates as 3rd level fighters. The knights serve you for one day or on one task, whichever is of shorter duration. You can also borrow up to 1,000gp of nonmagical gear from the order to outfit these knights, but you must replace anything that is lost or destroyed. This ability supersedes and replaces the “Chapter Leader” Benefit.

Student of History (15 Prestige): You gain Knowledge (History) and any one other Knowledge skill of your choice as class skills.

Student of Battle (20 Prestige): You gain proficiency in one simple or martial weapon of your choice. If you are already proficient in all simple and martial weapons, you may gain proficiency in one exotic weapon of your choice.
